OptiSense Care files international patent application for ZenSeat

January 29, 2026

Helsingborg, Sweden, 28 January 2026 – Swedish medtech company OptiSense Care AB has filed an international patent application (PCT) covering its solution ZenSeat, a smart toilet seat designed to enable early detection of abnormal bowel movement patterns in care settings.

The patent application relates to systems and methods for discreet and automated detection of events during toilet visits, based on advanced radar technology combined with data-driven analysis. The technology is intended to support early identification of conditions such as constipation, particularly in patient groups who may have difficulties communicating their needs, including elderly individuals and people with cognitive impairment.

Filing the international patent application is an important step in protecting the core technology behind ZenSeat and establishing a solid foundation for future commercialization and international partnerships, says Peter Rybäck, CEO of OptiSense Care AB.

ZenSeat is designed to operate without cameras, wearable sensors, or other privacy-invasive solutions. Data is collected automatically and can provide caregivers with early decision support, contributing to improved patient safety and more proactive care.

ZenSeat is currently being evaluated in real-world care environments in Sweden, and OptiSense Care is engaged in discussions with both Swedish and international stakeholders regarding future deployment and collaboration.
