Helsingborg, 21 May 2026 – OptiSense Care AB today announces the commercial launch of ZenSeat®, an innovative sensor-based solution for municipal health and social care services, following registration as a Class I medical device under the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR).
The launch marks an important step towards more proactive and preventative health and social care. ZenSeat® provides care providers with a digital decision-support tool that helps staff identify deviations in toilet habits and act at an early stage – potentially contributing to improved patient safety, earlier interventions and more proactive care.
ZenSeat® uses privacy-friendly radar technology and AI-based analysis to help staff identify deviations in toilet habits. The technology has been developed for municipal care environments, including residential care homes and other settings where individuals with health and care needs may have difficulty communicating symptoms or discomfort themselves.
From Reactive to Proactive Care
Constipation and related health issues are common within municipal health and social care services. They can lead to significant distress, increased care burden, medication-related challenges, avoidable hospital admissions and, in severe cases, life-threatening complications.
ZenSeat® enables health and care staff to identify risks earlier and introduce preventative measures in a timely manner.
“Our ambition is to help healthcare move towards a more proactive approach rather than responding only once problems have already developed. ZenSeat® provides staff with stronger decision support while safeguarding patient dignity and privacy,” says Peter Rybäck, CEO of OptiSense Care AB.
Evaluated in Real Care Environments
ZenSeat® has been evaluated in real-world care environments in collaboration with the City of Helsingborg and Höganäs Municipality.
Both Helsingborg and Höganäs have highlighted the projects in their own publications, describing positive experiences from the pilot environments and the technology’s potential to support more proactive and preventative health and social care.
“In addition to helping us optimise the dosing of bowel-regulating medication, we have identified a care recipient with a urinary tract infection and another individual whose sleep had been disrupted by frequent night-time toilet visits,” says Linda Rieger in an article published by Höganäs Municipality.
Ready for Implementation
Following MDR registration, ZenSeat® is now ready for implementation across municipal health and social care services and other care settings where early detection and proactive care are important.
OptiSense Care AB is currently in discussions with additional municipalities, care providers and strategic partners regarding further implementation and future expansion, initially across Europe and subsequently globally.
